About Dr. John Zhang
Founder, Cathay Psychological Institute
My name is Dr. John Kailei Zhang. I am a licensed psychologist in California.
I was born and raised in China and came to the United States on a student visa at age 18 in 1986. After completing my undergraduate degree in Sociology and Philosophy, I began my graduate training at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have been employed and engaged in practice as a psychologist from 2000 until the present.
My primary professional specialty is in the areas of forensic psychology, general psychological assessment, and psychotherapy within short-term cognitive behavior framework. I have conducted over 40,000 psychological evaluations over the course of my career.
Raised in a family with a history of mental illness and being a practicing psychologist for over 20 years, I have developed deep compassion for the silent anguish of the underserved population. As part of my psychology training, I began personal psychotherapy in 1992 and have been receiving nearly continuous psychotherapy since then. The benefits have been invaluable to my mental health and the wellness of close family and friends. I would like to share my knowledge and experience in mental health in an affect to de-stigmatize mental illness and promote mental wellness.
